According to US President Donald Trump, the shooter at a gala dinner in Washington has anti-Christian views. «If you read his manifesto, you realize that he hates Christians. “That’s for sure, he hates Christians,” Trump told Fox News. The president did not provide any further details about the document. Trump called the attacker a “crazy guy.” Family members even provided information about the anti-Christian views to the security authorities.
“Truly fearless”
US government spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also commented on the attack on the gala dinner in Washington. She viewed it as an attempt to assassinate the president. The dinner was hijacked by a madman “trying to assassinate the president and kill as many high-ranking Trump administration officials as possible,” Leavitt said on X.
Leavitt, who was also sitting in the official gallery, was brought to safety with Trump and First Lady Melania. “President Trump was truly fearless, but as he said last night, this political violence must end.”
At the gala dinner with the capital’s press on Saturday evening (local time), a heavily armed man stormed through a security gate and was overwhelmed by security forces. Shots were fired and the president was brought to safety by his bodyguards.
Justice Minister Todd Blanche had previously announced that the suspect’s motive was part of the investigation. According to initial findings, investigators believe the shooter targeted members of the Trump administration, Blanche said. (sda/dpa)
