In another incident in the Strait of Hormuz, the crew of a container ship disembarked after a fire. The crew members had gone to a rescue ship, the British merchant shipping safety authority UKMTO said early in the morning. This was reported by a security officer on the ship and military authorities. The UKMTO previously reported that the ship was damaged east of Oman.
The US military had previously announced that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) had attacked the Cypriot-flagged container ship “GFS Galaxy” in the Strait of Hormuz. A civilian crew member is therefore missing. The 300-meter-long ship was unable to continue its journey due to a fire on board and significant damage to the engine room.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards had previously said they had fired warning shots at a ship in the strait. The ship posed a threat to maritime security in the strait, the Revolutionary Guards said via its channel Sepah News on Telegram. According to this, several ships had previously tried to travel an unauthorized route and ignored requests from the Revolutionary Guards to correct their route. As a result of this incident, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until further notice and until the end of US interventions in the region. (sda/dpa)
