According to US media reports, the USA and Iran want to initiate talks about an end to the Iran war. As the US portal “Axios” and the broadcaster CNN reported, citing a US official, US negotiator Steve Witkoff is on his way to Switzerland, where the first round of talks on a possible nuclear agreement is to take place. This had actually been planned for Friday, but did not take place due to renewed mutual attacks between the Israeli army and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.
US negotiator Jared Kushner is already in Switzerland, Axios reported. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also planning to travel to Switzerland today, the US news portal quoted an informed source as saying. But this could still change. The Iranians initially wanted to wait and see whether a new ceasefire between Israel and the Hezbollah militia would last, it was said.
According to Lebanese security circles, Israeli attacks continued even after the agreement. Israel and Hezbollah had accused each other of violating a ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran. It is still unclear when the first round of talks will take place after the signing of the framework agreement between the USA and Iran, the reports said. (sda/dpa)
