US President Donald Trump received a “DoorDash” delivery to the Oval Office of the White House on Monday. A delivery woman brought the president two bags full of food from the fast food chain McDonald’s.
The strange scene at the White House was filmed and used specifically for political messages. The video can be found on the White House profile on YouTube, among other places.
At first it seems like a random scene: a driver for the delivery service DoorDash approaches the entrance to the Oval Office with two large bags, Trump personally opens the door and greets her with the words: “Hello, nice to see you.” Then he holds the delivery up to the cameras and says: “Look at this!” There is Trump’s self-proclaimed favorite food: McDonald’s.
But then Trump looks into the cameras of the journalists present and asks: “That doesn’t look staged, does it?” It is obvious that the scene was actually prepared and did not happen by chance: access to the White House and the President is only possible after strict security checks.

Trump obviously wants to use this appearance to promote his government. The president abolished the tip tax during his second term. This means that taxes are no longer levied on tips, which means that suppliers or service employees get more of their tips.
Trump stands next to the delivery driver, holds the McDonald’s bags in his hand and explains that the regulation has also helped her “tremendously”. Her family benefited greatly from it. The older woman, who is wearing a red T-shirt with the inscription “DoorDash Grandmother,” confirms this: “It has helped my family tremendously and I really appreciate it.” The arrangement saved her more than $11,000.
Before Trump goes back to the Oval Office, there is another symbolic moment: when asked by a reporter whether the White House is a good tipper, the driver hesitates briefly. Trump then reaches into his pocket and hands her a $100 bill (around 78 Swiss francs). The woman reacts with a laugh: “Yes, very much.”
Trump then invites the driver to the Oval Office, where a press conference is taking place, and includes her in the question and answer session – including on foreign policy issues. This obviously makes the woman uncomfortable, as can be seen in another video. Among other things, he asks her: “I think you chose me. Or?” The driver answers evasively: “Um, maybe.”
