It has been a week since high-ranking representatives of the USA and Iran met for talks on the Bürgenstock in the canton of Nidwalden. The luxury resort was briefly converted into a venue for diplomatic talks. It was previously unclear who would ultimately pay the bill.
According to information from View It is now clear who will cover the costs: Qatar will not only have to pay for room and board for those taking part in the talks, but also for the costs caused by rebooking by hotel guests. The Bürgenstock resort belongs to the Qatari sovereign wealth fund.
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) confirmed a request from “Blick” that Switzerland would not cover any costs “within the Bürgenstock resort in the areas of logistics, accommodation and organization”.
However, security costs are borne by Switzerland. Around 2,000 members of the army and police were deployed to protect the summit.
