The Ukrainian armed forces have hit important military and civilian infrastructure targets in a coordinated major attack on the occupied Crimean peninsula. In addition to the complete destruction of a central supply bridge, massive drone attacks led to widespread power outages.

In the fifth year of the defense against the Russian invasion, Ukraine is increasing its strategic attacks on Russian supply routes behind the front lines. As the General Staff in Kiev announced, their own armed forces achieved a significant success in the center of Crimea. According to Ukrainian sources, a strategically important bridge in the Krasnogvardeysk region was completely destroyed.
This route was considered a central bottleneck for Russian military supplies. The interruption of this traffic route is likely to massively delay the supply of Russian troops on the hotly contested fronts in eastern Ukraine. At the same time, the Ukrainian army also targeted the enemy’s military reconnaissance. Radar systems and an electronic reconnaissance facility near Sevastopol were attacked by drones. There is currently no independent confirmation of the exact damage.
Large-scale power outages are putting a strain on the occupiers
The strikes against logistics were flanked by an intensive wave of drones that specifically targeted the peninsula’s energy network. The attacks had an immediate effect, which was also confirmed by the Russian occupying forces. Moscow-appointed governor Sergei Aksyonov told the Tass news agency that more than ten districts of Crimea are currently completely or partially without electricity. He described the situation as difficult and stressed that the peninsula’s power grid is now subject to daily drone attacks. He did not provide information on the number of households or military facilities affected.
With these targeted attacks on the energy infrastructure, Ukraine is adapting its military tactics. So far, it has been primarily the Russian armed forces that have put massive pressure on the civilian population and the economy of Ukraine through systematic attacks on the Ukrainian power grid, especially in the winter months. The latest operations make it clear that Ukraine is no longer fighting Crimea just as a military staging area, but rather wants to make the peninsula unusable for the Russian army through the systematic erosion of logistics and supplies.
