The international community must take note of this and decide together with the US population whether such a “drastic criminal act should be permitted,” he wrote on the X platform. Trump is escalating his threats of military aggression against Cuba to a dangerous and unprecedented extent.
On Friday, Trump again brought up a takeover of Cuba. He had previously described Cuba as a failed state and threatened to “drop by Cuba” when the Iran war was over. On Friday, the US government also expanded sanctions against the socialist Caribbean island.

Díaz-Canel went on to write that no aggressor, no matter how powerful, would be met with surrender in Cuba. Rather, he will encounter a people determined to defend sovereignty and independence on every inch of national territory.
On Labor Day on Friday, hundreds of thousands of Cubans protested in the capital Havana against the US embargo and threats from the Trump administration. According to government figures, more than 500,000 people took part in the rally in front of the US Embassy, including President Díaz-Canel and former head of state Raúl Castro.
Cuba is suffering from the worst economic crisis in decades. The situation is made worse by a massive energy shortage because the US government has imposed an oil blockade on the island nation since January.
