The spectacular art heist from the Louvre in Paris last October is being made into a film. A film directed by Romain Gavras and a documentary series based on an investigative book by three journalists are planned, the Flammarion publishing house in Paris announced.
The filming rights to the book “Main basse sur le Louvre” (in German: Grip on the Louvre), which was published on Wednesday, were assigned by the publisher to the production studios Iconoclast for the feature film and to Misfits of the Mediawan Group for the documentary series. Neither the title nor the release date nor the names of the actors for the film have been announced yet.
Director Romain Gavras, son of directing legend Constantin Costa-Gavras, was particularly known for his films “Notre jour viendra” from 2010 and “Athena” about social conflicts in a suburb from 2022.
Journalists present investigative book on Louvre break-in
In the tell-all book, journalists Jean-Michel Décugis (“Le Parisien”), Jérémie Pham-Lê (“Le Monde”) and Nicolas Torrent (“Paris Match”) report how the four now-imprisoned suspects managed to break into the Louvre on October 19, 2025 in order to steal crown jewels worth an estimated 88 million euros. There is still no trace of the prey.
The incident made international headlines and sparked a debate about the security of the museum. The then museum director has since resigned.
The masked people had parked a truck equipped with a lifting platform next to the museum. While two of the perpetrators waited on scooters on the street, the other two used the lift to reach a balcony on the first floor and from there through a window into the museum, where they also threatened staff. The whole coup only lasted a few minutes. (sda/dpa)
