After the earthquake disaster in Venezuela, which has already left 4,333 dead, the authorities have announced the construction of temporary single-family accommodation for those affected. As the newly appointed head of the emergency camps, Jorge Rodríguez, announced, families will be accommodated there while reconstruction progresses.
Almost 18,000 people lost their homes in the devastating double earthquake. Many people are currently housed in schools that will have to be evacuated in September at the start of the new school year, Rodríguez, brother of Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, said at a press conference.
On June 24, two consecutive earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela within just 39 seconds. The number of confirmed deaths exceeded the four thousand mark on Friday (local time) – and continues to rise. More than 850 buildings collapsed or were severely damaged. Numerous buildings are in ruins, especially in the northern state of La Guaira on the Caribbean coast. (sda/dpa)
