A person fired shots at a mosque in San Diego, California, on Monday evening. The mayor of the city confirmed a corresponding police operation via the X platform. Local media reported at least one death. Helicopter footage shows heavily armed police officers in front of the building and a person covered in blood lying on the ground.
The local police authority later confirmed via X that the operation had been completed and the danger had been averted. The area will remain cordoned off for the time being. Further details are not yet known.
The threat at the Islamic center has been neutralized.

An eyewitness told CBS that he heard around 30 shots from a semi-automatic weapon. The mosque was well attended during the holiday season, he said.
