The German rapper Shirin David deals in her new song against Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the TV presenter Thomas Gottschalk.
In the track “LDNB” with rapper AK Ausserkontrolle, David raps without mentioning Merz’s name: “May I ask our chancellor a question/If we get married, can I rape you?”
The singer (“Belly Legs Po”) is likely alluding to the Christian Democrat politician’s much-criticized decision in 1997 to vote against a bill that would include marital rape in the criminal code. At the end of 2024, Merz told the newspapers of the “Neue Berliner Editorial Society” as well as the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” that he would vote differently today.
Marital rape has always been punishable as coercion and serious bodily harm, said Merz. He never voted against criminalizing marital rape, but rather for an objection clause that would have given victims the opportunity to prevent prosecution.

Shirin David: “Thomas has finally resigned from “Wetten, dass..?””
Regarding Gottschalk, David raps in the newly released song: “Thomas has finally resigned from ‘Wetten, dass..?’/ Those are two reasons to celebrate, Fero will soon be out of jail.” Fero is a rapper. David had an exchange of blows with Gottschalk at the entertainment show in 2023.
He told the 31-year-old on the show that he hadn’t even looked at her as a feminist. “Why not?” asked David in front of the ZDF audience of millions. «Because I look good? As a feminist, we can look good and we can be smart and eloquent and beautiful at the same time. One does not exclude the other.”
David recently posted several pictures on Instagram showing them in a studio. She wrote: “10 weeks in Thailand writing the album and let me tell you: I have a lot to tell.” In March, a documentary about the life of the Berlin-based artist was released on the streaming service Netflix. (sda/dpa/fwa)
