A man is said to have threatened several passers-by with a knife near the entrance to the Acropolis tourist attraction in Athens in the morning and then attacked a tourist couple.

According to Greek media reports, the alleged perpetrator was arrested. There was initially no official confirmation from the police. The man’s motive is unclear, Greek public broadcaster ERTNews reported.
Passer-by reports man with knife
The incident reportedly occurred around 8 a.m. local time. A passer-by alerted the police after she saw a man with a knife threatening passers-by. Emergency services then deployed to the area.
According to consistent media reports, the man then apparently suddenly attacked a tourist couple from the USA and injured both of them. Accordingly, the man suffered a serious leg injury and the woman was injured in the arm. An ambulance took the injured to a hospital for medical treatment. (sda/dpa)
