The drone that hit a residential building and injured two people in the Romanian town of Galati near the Ukrainian border is “without a doubt” of Russian origin. Romania’s President Nicusor Dan confirmed this on social media. Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had expressed doubts about the origin of the drone and demanded that Romania send the parts of the object to Russia for testing.
Romanian experts examined the object and compared it with several Russian drones that struck Romanian territory over the past two years, Dan wrote on Facebook. In all cases these are drones of the “Geran 2” type. In the most recent case, this type name was also found written in Cyrillic letters on the remains of the drone. All were made from the same material and ran on the same fuel. Accordingly, Russia is “the only responsible party” for this incident.

The drone hit the roof of a ten-story residential building in Galati on Friday night, broke through it and started a fire in the apartment directly below. According to the Romanian army, it came from the region of the Ukrainian Danube port of Reni when it was attacked by a swarm of 43 Russian drones. Romania then summoned the Russian ambassador, expelled the Russian consul in the Black Sea city of Constanta and closed the consulate. (sda/dpa)
