The bills from Swiss hospitals for the treatment of Italian victims of the Crans-Montana fire should no longer be passed on to the families of those affected. Swiss Federal President Guy Parmelin confirmed this on Tuesday in Rome.
He met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The atmosphere during the discussions was “open, constructive and positive,” said Parmelin. He confirmed that the Swiss Federal Council would address the question of the billing of hospital services between the affected states on the basis of the applicable legal provisions.
The treatment costs would be covered by Victim Support if they are not covered by insurance. In order to avoid misunderstandings, Switzerland will no longer send copies of invoices to the families of the victims, Parmelin emphasized at a press conference in Rome. The Federal President also confirmed that the responsible authorities in both countries will remain in contact. (sda)
