Shipping traffic in the Gulf state of Qatar is back to normal after previous warnings about renewed Iranian attacks. The Qatari Ministry of Transport announced that trips for all types of ships will be possible again as of today. However, ship operators and crews should continue to adhere to the regulations in order to guarantee the highest level of safety.
Qatar had previously advised a temporary suspension of shipping traffic following renewed Iranian attacks. The ministry announced two weeks ago that it was recommended that all trips and other “sea-based activities” be suspended until further notice. This also applies to fishing and leisure boats, jet skis and “all other sea vehicles”. The warning followed renewed attacks from Iran.
From pearl divers and traditional dhows to today’s tourist cruises and luxury boats, Qatar’s identity is closely linked to Persian Gulf shipping. Located on a peninsula, the country has dozens of fishing and marinas for commercial and private operations. (hkl/sda/dpa)
