Who is that next to Queen Camilla? Of course, columnist Carrie Bradshaw from “Sex and the City”! So the actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who thinks reading is just as important as the Queen.Image: keystone
Travel stress with the royals. And we learn: Diamonds aren’t a King’s best friends.

This much was already certain before Charles and Camilla landed in America on April 27th: both their son Harry and the mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdanihad made it known that they would NOT be meeting C&C. So in Harry’s case not at all, in Mamdani’s case not privately. Mamdani is the son of Indian parents. He also announced that Charles would like the Koh-i-Noor diamond to be returned to India.
We remember: the territorially overzealous Queen Victoria pushes the eleven-year-old child Maharajah Duleep Singh from the throne, snatches the diamond, keeps Duleep at court like an exotic monkey, grinds the precious diamond in half and has it set in a brooch. Later he adorns a crown that Camilla is not allowed to wear at her coronation because it would offend India.
But back to the royals’ US adventure: It began on the afternoon of the 27th with a state tea in the White House, where the Windsors and the Trumps were able to sniff each other in a relaxed manner. Afterwards we went to a garden party with 650 guests British Embassy. 3000 sandwiches and scones were served, the sandwiches had the following fillings: Scottish salmon with lemon butter, British roast beef with horseradish, eggs with mayo and finally cucumber with nothing.
On the 28th we continued with Charles’ well-known speeches in Congress and in the evening, at the big state banquet, our Daniel Huber had an inedible one Amount of onions certified, before Trump.
Quick but not dirty: the meeting between Charles and Zohran Mamdani.Image: keystone
The 29th brought four new dates: The day began with a bouquet-laying at the 9/11 memorial, where, among a large number of people, the mayor was present, who exchanged a few “courtesies” with Charles, nothing else. Then C&C split up. Garden fetishist Charles visited a school garden, where he fed chickens with lettuce leaves and watched, entranced, as the students tended to their herbs.
Humor alert! The very conservative Brit Gyles Brandreth is thrilled to see his queen.Image: keystone
Camilla hit it harder: in the magnificent New York Public Library She was attacked first by model New Yorker Sarah Jessica Parker, then by a man in a red Winnie the Pooh sweater. Parker played Camilla’s hostess, the man being the former British Tory politician and TV journalist Gyles Brandreth, a hardcore royalist.
Anna Wintour and Camilla seem to know each other. Did Camilla ever do an internship at “Vogue”?Image: keystone
The “Devil Wears Prada” template Anne Wintour was also there and was important (why?) and brushed off Camilla. And Camilla donated a kangaroo named Roo to the Public Library. Because Roo was still missing from the library. Roo is the child of Kanga, the big kangaroo from “Winnie-the-Pooh” by British author AA Milne. He gave his son Robin various stuffed animals and wrote wonderful stories for them. Its protagonists were a little boy named Robin and Pooh the Bear. This year the great children’s book turns one hundred years old.

And the stuffed animals? Robin Mile gave this to the president of his American publishing house in 1947. The publisher displayed the animals in a glass display case in its foyer and donated them to the New York Public Library in 1985. Everyone was there: Pooh, the donkey, the piglet, the tiger and the kangaroo. The only thing missing was the baby kangaroo, which Robin had once lost in the vegetable garden as a child. Camilla now brought it with her. Not the original of course, but a copy made by the best and most traditional soft toy manufacturer in Great Britain.
Huge cheers in the library. And Camilla read The Adventures of the Bear of Little Sense to some extremely bored schoolchildren.

C&C finally saw each other again, namely at a gala at Christie’s auction house, where Camilla met Anna Wintour again, but also Lionel Richie, Stella McCartney and Donatella Versace. The gala was organized by the King’s Trust, a British-American organization founded by Charles 50 years ago to promote cultural and charitable exchange between the two countries. Charles gave another speech.
The next stop is Virginia. Camilla will visit a horse farm and Charles will talk to the indigenous population about environmental protection. Afterwards there’s a huge party to mark some kind of anniversary. And perhaps on the way they will say to each other what Pooh Bear also said: “A day with you is my favorite day. So today is my new favorite day.”
