Israeli army: Fired more than 50 projectiles
The Israeli army accused Hezbollah of repeated violations of the ceasefire. During the night they fired more than 50 projectiles at soldiers in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah’s missile sites, weapons depots and command centers were then attacked to eliminate threats. The army will continue to take action against any threat to the State of Israel and its soldiers.
The militia, on the other hand, said it had responded to an advance by Israeli troops. It was also said that Hezbollah would continue to adhere to the ceasefire, but would oppose any attempt to conquer further land.
According to a US government official, a ceasefire has actually been in effect since Friday 4 p.m. local time (3 p.m./CEST). This was broken several times just a few minutes after it came into force.
The military conflict between Israel and Hezbollah is straining negotiations between the US government and Iran. A bilateral framework agreement actually provides for a ceasefire on all fronts – including in Lebanon. (hkl/sda/dpa)
