Background
In January 2026, Parliament adopted its position on the revision of EU air passenger rights rules. MEPs were seeking to maintain the right for air travellers to be reimbursed or re-routed and to claim compensation if a flight is delayed by more than three hours, if it is cancelled, or if they are denied boarding.
However, in March 2026 EU ministers rejected Parliament’s proposals, following which the Conciliation Committee between the Parliament and the Council began its work. After eight weeks of intense negotiations co-legislators have been working towards a compromise agreement on the review of air passenger rights rules.
