In June, the Transport and Tourism and Security and Defence Committees adopted their position on new EU military mobility rules, and decided to launch talks with the Council. The MEPs backed the plans to support the transport of military equipment, troops and assets across the EU to be better able to deter any possible aggression. They also advocated for swift digital military transport permit clearance, and enhanced cooperation with NATO allies. They supported the creation of a solidarity pool to close capability gaps, and a special military mobility response system during crisis.
For interinstitutional talks to start, Parliament’s position needs plenary backing. The decision will be announced on Wednesday morning.
