In Munich, an 82-year-old was crushed to death by an excavator in a scrap car. As the German police announced, the man had unnoticed gotten into a car that was intended for scrapping on the premises of a company.
It initially remained unclear why he was sitting in the car on Wednesday. According to current findings, a 60-year-old operated the heavy construction equipment to process old vehicles. He used the excavator’s gripper arm to dent the roof of the car and then turned the car onto the roof. According to police, a witness only noticed at that moment that there was a person in the car.
According to the information, the 82-year-old suffered fatal injuries when the roof was crushed. Firefighters had to use appropriate technology to rescue the dead man from the destroyed car. The Munich traffic police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
As a police spokesman said, it was not the 82-year-old’s car. The man may have been at the scrapyard as a scrap metal collector. (sda/dpa)
