34 people, including several children, were injured in a rear-end collision on Autobahn 9 in southern Thuringia. The injuries were all mild to moderate, and no one’s life was in danger, a police spokesman said.
According to the information, the driver of a motorhome with two children on board saw the end of a traffic jam between the Rudolphstein and Bad Lobenstein exits too late on Saturday evening. The mobile home rammed several vehicles and nine were damaged – including two minibuses in which 11 children “with high support needs” and 8 carers were sitting who were returning from Austria.
Motorway closed for five and a half hours
The motorway remained closed in the direction of Berlin for around five and a half hours due to rescue and recovery measures. The police estimated the property damage at around 350,000 euros.
Almost 40 minutes before the collision, there was an accident on the A9 in the direction of Munich around 6 p.m. in which a horse trailer was involved. The trailer, which had a horse in it, overturned. The motorway was then completely closed in both directions, which led to a traffic jam in the opposite direction, the end of which the motorhome driver saw too late. (sda/dpa)
