According to media reports, the USA has seized another oil tanker. This time it is the ship “Olina”, as a US government representative told the Reuters news agency. As Reuters reports, the ship is said to have “incorrectly” sailed under the flag of East Timor and had previously departed from Venezuela.
It is the fifth such operation in recent weeks. The USA had already boarded the oil tanker “Bella-1” between Scotland and Iceland on Wednesday. It was said that the ship threatened “the security and stability of the Western Hemisphere.”
Before the weekend’s military operation in Venezuela, including the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, US President Donald Trump had ordered a naval blockade of sanctioned oil tankers that were heading towards Venezuela or leaving a port in the resource-rich country. Russia is accused by Western allies of using old tankers to evade sanctions. (fan/dpa)
