A passenger plane belonging to the US airline United Airlines hit a truck and a light pole with a tire while approaching Newark Airport.
The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries, US media reported.
The Boeing 767 coming from Venice was crossing a highway in the immediate vicinity of the airport on Sunday afternoon (local time) at a speed of around 160 miles per hour (approx. 257 kilometers per hour) when the incident occurred. This was reported by the US broadcaster CNN, citing the police in the state of New Jersey.
In a video from the truck, the noise of the plane’s engine can be heard getting louder before a window is broken in the collision. After the collision, the driver drove the truck to the side of the road, ABC reported, citing the driver’s employer.
None of the 221 passengers and ten crew members on board were injured. The plane taxied to the gate properly and sustained only minor damage, ABC reported, citing the airline. United Airlines has opened an investigation into the incident. (sda/dpa)
