The German company Hensoldt, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of radar systems, will join the FREYA project.
Fire Point signed the relevant agreement at the Eurosatory international exhibition in Paris, where a Militarnyi correspondent was also present.
According to the Ukrainian company, the involvement of the well-known German radar manufacturer effectively brings the FREYA project into its final stages.
“Their TRML-4D radar will handle the detection function. It’s a very good radar, and now we’ll begin integrating it with our missile and C2 center and receiving commands from it to guide the missile to the area where it can intercept a ballistic missile,” Denys Shtilierman, Fire Point’s chief designer, told Militarnyi in a comment.
Currently, Hensoldt is already actively supplying its products to Ukraine, where its radars—in particular, the TRML-4D in combination with the Iris-T SLM air defense missile systems—have demonstrated their effectiveness in combat conditions.

The FREYA anti-missile system is based on the Ukrainian FP-7.X interceptor missile manufactured by Fire Point. Recently, the developers conducted successful tests of this missile, during which it demonstrated high maneuverability and the ability to fly at an altitude of 25 km.
In addition to the Ukrainian missile and the Hensoldt radar, the system will include several other European-made components.
The illumination and guidance radar role will be performed by either the Weibel GFTR-2100/48 or the Leonardo KRONOS Land, and the command post will be based on the Norwegian Kongsberg Fire Distribution Center with a Network Access Nodes module.
Communication between all components of the missile defense system will be carried out via the Link 16 data exchange channel, which is standardized in accordance with STANAG 5516 requirements. This protocol will serve as the primary interface for integrating the FREYA system into Ukraine’s existing air defense system.
Earlier reports indicated the possibility of integrating the multifunctional Swedish Saab Giraffe 4A/8A radars and the French Thales Ground Master 400 systems into the missile defense system.
Since the system’s architecture is declared open, the use of Hensoldt’s solutions does not preclude future integration of other radar systems.
In addition to the highly mobile TRML-4D radar, capable of tracking over 1,500 targets at ranges of up to 250 km, the German partner’s product line also includes the SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII model. It is designed to detect and classify low-flying air, ground, and maritime targets.
