According to local authorities, Ukrainian drones hit a residential building in the southern Russian city of Engels on the Volga. While Governor Roman Bussargin initially wrote on social networks that there were no injuries, the public prosecutor’s office later announced that people had been injured.
The authority did not disclose any details. According to media reports, the drones also started a fire at the military airfield of the bomber fleet stationed there. The extent of the damage is unknown. Officials have not yet confirmed these reports.
The air base in Engels is one of the largest in Russia. Strategic bombers continue to rise from there to bombard cities in Ukraine, such as Kiev, with rockets last night. Ukraine has therefore already attacked Engels with drones in the past.
Meanwhile, north of Moscow, according to a report by the independent portal Astra, Ukrainian drones set fire to an oil depot near the city of Yaroslavl, also on the Volga. The huge facility is part of the local refinery and is said to have up to 620,000 cubic meters of storage capacity.
Officials in Yaroslavl later confirmed an attack. One man was killed in the attack and four people were injured, wrote Governor Mikhail Yevrayev. He did not provide any information about damage. (sda/dpa)
