Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is due to attend a Group of Seven summit later this month in France, according to three officials aware of plans to invite the wartime leader.

Zelenskyy is expected to join heads of state and government from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States at the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, said the officials who were granted anonymity to speak freely about preparations for the gathering.

The Ukrainian leader plans to discuss war diplomacy and air defense to counter ballistic missile attacks by Russia, one of the officials said.

In March, a French presidential adviser said Zelenskyy had not been invited to the June 15-17 summit.

A spokesperson for France’s Elysée presidential palace, which is organizing the G7 conclave, did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
