Flamingo cruise missiles hit the Titan-Barrikady facility and set it on fire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram. The factory produces artillery systems and elements for rocket launchers, he wrote.
The governor of the Volgograd region, Andrei Bocharov, confirmed damage to “a company’s production facilities,” but did not provide any further details about what was produced there. According to him, at least ten people were injured. He wrote about attacking “high-speed flying objects” – which probably meant cruise missiles. Several local fires had been extinguished, Bocharov wrote. Residential buildings were therefore not affected.
Factory is said to have been involved in the production of Oreshnik
According to media reports, Titan-Barrikady produces components for the Iskander, Jars and Topol-M missile complexes, which in principle can also carry nuclear weapons. The factory is also said to be involved in the production of the new Russian Oreshnik medium-range missile.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for more than four years. In recent months, it has increasingly focused on attacks against strategically important objects in the Russian hinterland – mostly with drones, but on several occasions now also with the self-developed Flamingo cruise missile. In addition to military facilities and defense plants, oil industry facilities have also been targeted. In doing so, Ukraine wants to make it more difficult for the attacking Russian troops to supply fuel and for the Kremlin to finance the war. (sda/dpa)
