The Berlin company Delivery Hero confirmed that it is merging with the US group Uber. Accordingly, Uber is offering 41.50 euros per Delivery Hero share. This means that the company is valued at just under 13 billion euros.

Most recently, Uber’s share was almost 25 percent, plus financial instruments of almost 12 percent. Now Delivery Hero’s major shareholder Prosus sold its share of almost 17 percent. The Dutch investment company agreed to do this as part of the purchase of its competitor Just Eat Takeaway ( Lieferando ).

Delivery Hero confirmed on Tuesday evening that it was in advanced discussions about a takeover by Uber. The shares of the Berlin delivery service group then rose in premarket trading. The stock had already gained significantly in value since mid-April after it was announced that Uber had increased its stake in Delivery Hero.

The headquarters should remain in Berlin

Delivery Hero is based in Berlin, but has no longer been operational in this country since the sale of its German business to Just Eat Takeaway. However, the company is one of the world’s largest food delivery services due to its strong presence in Asia, Southern Europe, the Arabian Peninsula and Africa. Uber operates a food delivery service called Uber Eats – including in many cities in Germany.

As part of the purchase, Uber commits to maintaining Delivery Hero’s headquarters in Berlin and not making any changes to its workforce in the federal capital until at least 2029. (sda/awp/dpa)
