After massive criticism of his interim solution, US President Donald Trump has proposed a candidate for the permanent post of intelligence coordinator. The President nominated Jay Clayton, who currently works as a prosecutor in New York, as Trump announced on the Truth Social platform. The Senate in the US Parliament still has to approve the personnel. Trump asked for a quick confirmation.

The US intelligence coordinator is at the top of the US intelligence community and serves as the president’s chief adviser on intelligence matters.
Trump got into a lot of trouble
Trump recently got into a lot of trouble when he presented an interim solution for the position at the beginning of the month – even from within the Republican ranks. He appointed the head of the Federal Housing Finance Authority and presidential confidant Bill Pulte. Days ago, Trump announced that it would start on June 19th. It is unclear whether it will stay that way.
Critics accused the president of saying his supporter Pulte had no experience in the intelligence sector. In addition: Pulte comes from a background in which allegations arose against a member of the board of the US Federal Reserve over alleged irregularities in mortgages. Trump wanted to get board member Lisa Cook fired. She resisted and remained in office for the time being.
Critics accuse Trump of wanting to drive unpleasant opponents out of office. They complain that Pulte is a potential recipient of Trump’s orders and is implementing what he demands without being contradicted.
That’s why the position becomes vacant
The post of intelligence coordinator is vacant because Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation on June 30. She cited family reasons. Her husband is suffering from a rare form of bone cancer. Media had previously reported that Gabbard and Trump had differing opinions on the Iran war. (hkl/sda/dpa)
