That’s what it’s about
The USA and Iran have prematurely signed the framework agreement that will formally end the war and serve as the basis for a final peace agreement. US President Donald Trump did this during a visit to French President Emmanuel Macron in Versailles. Iran also confirmed the signing. There will be no official signing ceremony in Switzerland after all. According to mediator Pakistan, Iran responded to the conclusion of the agreement, which comes into force immediately, by opening the Strait of Hormuz.
The current developments always in the live ticker:
This is known for signing
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who plays a central role as a mediator, announced on Thursday night (Swiss time) that the agreement had been signed, should come into force immediately and that Iran would immediately open the Strait of Hormuz.
It was previously reported that a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry and a US official announced that after US Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Sunday, Donald Trump and Iranian President Massoud Peseschkian had also signed the agreement. The Iranian state agency distributed images showing Peseschkian holding a document with both signatures.

Trump signed the document in Versailles, France, where he was received by French President Emmanuel Macron at the end of the G7 summit in the palace. A video distributed by the White House on Platform X shows him hand-signing a paper version of the agreement. There was then applause from those present and Macron shook Trump’s hand.

This paper version is a symbolic edition. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, those involved had already digitally signed the actual document. For this reason, the signing ceremony in Switzerland, most recently the Bürgenstock was named as the venue, should be canceled. A US official had recently confirmed that the ceremony would take place with JD Vance. However, Iran contradicted this shortly afterwards.
No new information is known about the content of the document. A 14-point document has been circulating since Wednesday, which largely corresponds to the agreement that has now been signed, as a US government official confirmed to the media. You can read what it says here:
That’s what the parties say
There has been no direct reaction from Donald Trump to the signing so far. At the signing of the paper version in Versailles, which was captured on video (see above), Trump can be heard saying:
“That wasn’t easy.”
He had previously threatened Iran: “If they don’t behave, we will immediately start throwing bombs right on their heads,” he said on the sidelines of the G7 summit on Lake Geneva.

Iranian Parliament President Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who served as Iran’s chief negotiator, made similar statements.
“If the United States does not honor its commitments, Iran will definitely not honor its own commitments.”

The reactions
China
The US geopolitical rival and ally of Iran made the comments shortly after the signing was announced. Through the country’s highest-ranking diplomat, Wang Yi, the People’s Republic announced that the “dawn of peace” had come. Wang explained that the parties now have to actually implement their commitments, that is the key. He also emphasized the importance of normalizing conditions in the Strait of Hormuz.
France
Emmanuel Macron, who sat next to Trump when he signed the agreement, commented on X that the 14-point plan “paves the way for lasting peace” and will also lead to falling energy prices.
