A tornado has formed on Lake Constance in front of the German city of Friedrichshafen. The waterspout was visible for about 15 minutes and moved to Lindau in Bavaria, said meteorologist Kai-Uwe Nerding from the German Weather Service.
He could not provide any information about the height and diameter. The wind speeds in the tornado are difficult to estimate, but they are estimated to be 100 to 150 kilometers per hour.
Since the tornado only formed over the water, there was no destruction. According to the water police, there were no emergencies on the water. However, Nerding warned of more tornadoes in the region this afternoon.

Tornadoes again and again on Lake Constance
According to Nerding, such tornadoes occur again and again on Lake Constance. What was special was that the tornado could be seen so clearly from the shore – including from Wasserburg. The thunderstorm cell that caused the tornado has already dissipated.
“In the atmosphere we have rotation at the lowest levels, and this rotation, in conjunction with the thunderstorm cell, where there are updrafts, ensured that we had the formation of a tornado,” explained the meteorologist.
Such tornadoes could now also occur in the Upper Swabia and Allgäu regions due to the general weather situation. Such tornadoes also occur there a few times a year. If the force is as strong as it is now on Lake Constance, trees could be snapped and roofs could be covered, said Nerding. (sda/dpa)
