Strong winds and lots of snow: Storm Johannes is keeping Scandidavia on its toes.Image: keystone
Winter storm Johannes has cut off power to thousands of households in Sweden and Norway. The frosty weather also led to numerous traffic disruptions and problems with ferry journeys, as the Ritzau news agency reported. In Sweden, wind speeds of around the size of a hurricane were measured in the morning.
The Swedish news agency TT reported that over half of the country was affected. 40,000 households are without electricity. A number of train connections were canceled. Finland was also affected by the storm; the strong winds caused disruptions to air traffic, for example. (sda/dpa)
