American megastar Taylor Swift topped global sales in 2025 for the fourth consecutive year and the sixth time in her career, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) announced on Wednesday.
This prestigious award is given to the artist who has achieved the highest sales of albums and singles throughout the year – whether these are digital, physical or streaming sales. However, the total sales volume of each artist is not disclosed.
The 36-year-old “Shake it Off” performer is ahead of K-pop band Stray Kids, who achieved their best result to date and are in the top 5 worldwide for the third time in a row. Behind him is the Canadian rap superstar Drake.
Taylor Swift receives this award following the release of her twelfth album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” in October, which had the best opening week of the year and the best opening week of her entire career.
Bad Bunny in fifth place
The love story between Taylor Swift and the American football player Travis Kelce, to whom she officially got engaged this summer, plays a big role. Her six-part documentary “The End of an Era” will also be released in 2025, providing a look behind the scenes of her gigantic world tour.
The fact that the American singer has topped the sales charts for the sixth time in her career is “a historic achievement,” emphasized Victoria Oakley, the association’s executive director, in the press release.
The current star singer, Puerto Rican Bad Bunny, who performed at halftime at the Super Bowl and recently triumphed at the Grammy Awards, is in fifth place, ahead of American rapper Kendrick Lamar. (sda/afp)
