NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte spoke to Donald Trump in the escalating Greenland dispute between the USA and Europe. Rutte said on X that he spoke to the US President about the security situation in Greenland and the Arctic.
“We will continue to work on it and I look forward to meeting him in Davos at the end of this week,” he added. The World Economic Forum is taking place in Davos, and Trump is also expected to attend on Wednesday.

The background to the conversation is US President Trump’s claims to Greenland, which belongs to Denmark. His European NATO partners are strictly against the US annexing Greenland.
In an unprecedented move, Trump announced early Saturday evening that additional tariffs would be imposed against Germany and seven other European countries – all of them NATO countries – starting in February, citing the conflict over Greenland. (sda/dpa)
