A 67-year-old Swiss man died in a traffic accident in Andelsbuch, Austria, on Tuesday. According to the Vorarlberg police, he was on a motorbike when a cyclist wanted to cross the street from the bike path near a stream overpass. This resulted in a collision.
The motorbike driver therefore drove towards the left side of the road and ended up on the sidewalk. The engine block of his motorcycle then became wedged in the bridge railing and the man was thrown from the vehicle.
He fell around 14 meters deep into the Bregenzerache, a tributary of Lake Constance. The Swiss remained lying on his stomach with his head under water. Despite rescue measures being taken immediately, he succumbed to his injuries on site, the police said.
The cyclist was seriously injured in the accident. He was taken to a hospital by helicopter. The road had to be partially closed completely during the rescue operation. (front)
