The situation for the defenders of the city of Kostiantynivka in eastern Ukraine has continued to deteriorate.

“Kostiantynivka itself is in a semi-encirclement because the enemy has advanced in the area of Chasiv Yar and Berestok,” Serhiy Yaryi, commander of a drone battalion of the 28th mechanized brigade, told the Hromadske news portal.

The Russian army is trying to control the two main supply routes into the city. “As a result, logistics are in a very tense situation: evacuations, supplies and the tracking of infantry to Kostiantynivka are very difficult.”
Ukrainian maps confirm that the heavily destroyed industrial city is surrounded on three sides. Other Ukrainian military officials had previously described the situation as very difficult.
The leadership in Kiev recently spoke, especially internationally, of having stopped the Russian advance and recaptured areas. But even Ukrainian maps show Russian troops advancing, albeit more slowly than in the winter months. Observers assume that Kostiantynivka could fall in the summer months. Of the larger cities in the Donetsk region, only Slovyansk, Kramatorsk and Druzhkivka remained under Ukrainian control. (dab/sda/dpa)
