During the flight, a bang was heard and then a window was broken, a passenger told the German Press Agency (dpa). Fellow passengers held onto the passenger sitting next to the damaged window.
“His head and shoulders were sticking out of the broken window,” another eyewitness said on Greek radio ERT. Other passengers could have pulled the man back. Oxygen masks fell down in the cabin, as can be seen in photos and videos on social networks.
The pilot then aborted the flight and returned to Thessaloniki Airport, the passenger reported. The return flight took about 20 minutes after the incident.
The passenger who was sitting next to the damaged window was taken to a hospital in Thessaloniki by emergency services, Greek radio reported. According to the information, the man comes from Serbia.
There was initially no official statement from Ryanair or the responsible authorities on the incident. Investigations have been started, reported ERT. (dab/sda/dpa)
