The Defense Ministry in Moscow reported 398 enemy long-range drones over many parts of Russia that were allegedly intercepted. According to the Russian state news agency Tass, it was the worst drone attack from Ukraine ever recorded.
It followed a day on which Russia launched not only missiles but also a maximum of almost 950 combat drones towards Ukraine. Two waves of attacks on Tuesday during the night and during the day resulted in deaths, injuries and serious damage. In the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, historical buildings in the old town, which is a world heritage site, were damaged.
Oil port on the Gulf of Finland as a destination
Russian authorities confirmed on Wednesday fires in the port of Ust-Luga, which is important for oil and gas exports. It is located on the Gulf of Finland about a hundred kilometers from St. Petersburg. There were no injuries. Damage to houses was reported on the island of Kronstadt, which is an important naval base for the Russian Baltic Fleet. On Monday, Ukrainian drones set fire to oil tanks in the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk.
Ukraine is trying to bring the war that has lasted more than four years back to the attacker’s country. It specifically attacks facilities in the Russian oil and gas industry because Moscow is financing the war through energy exports. Civilians are rarely harmed. Russian air strikes, on the other hand, regularly hit residential buildings in Ukraine; Civilians are killed or injured. (sda/dpa)
