According to the Norwegian Prime Minister, the Epstein scandal fundamentally shakes the trust of his country’s citizens in people with power. Jonas Gahr Støre told broadcaster NRK and at the same time promised clarification.

The close ties of prominent Norwegian politicians to the wealthy sex offender Jeffrey Epstein showed “that it is possible to buy influence if you are rich enough,” said Gahr Støre in the interview. This is a “brutal reality”.
New publications in the Epstein case suggest that high-ranking Norwegian diplomats, a former head of government and Norway’s crown princess had close contacts with the now deceased US businessman.
The fact that the police are investigating several of his compatriots underlines the seriousness of the case, Gahr Støre told NRK, adding: “As Prime Minister, it is my responsibility to condemn this. And to help solve the case.” (hkl/sda/dpa)
