There is speculation in the media about a connection with recent scandals. It was about fake certificates from the head of the aviation safety authority Moldatsa and bribes from state employees as well as high-paying jobs from a cousin of President Maia Sandu.
Sandu tried to dispel suspicions of influence at a hastily arranged press conference. “He had complete freedom to run the government as he saw fit,” she said, according to the Newsmaker portal. She wants to present a new candidate next week after consultation with the parliamentary groups. Her pro-Western Action and Solidarity party has a majority in parliament.
