A passenger stuck on a cruise ship at the center of a virus outbreak says that the atmosphere on board the vessel is “relatively good.”

Helene Goessaert was positive about the atmosphere on board the MV Hondius, despite the circumstances passengers now find themselves in.

“With a few exceptions, the atmosphere is actually relatively good, given the circumstances. We are worried about our two fellow passengers who are sick and who are still not allowed to disembark,” she said.

Goessaert added that she is not in quarantine, but she is following WHO guidelines and maintaining social distancing, and passengers are well briefed on any updates by the crew on board.

The ship has been blocked from docking in Tenerife by the leader of Canary Islands.

A total of seven suspected cases have been identified – including three deaths.
