Former US Attorney General Pam Bondi is suffering from thyroid cancer. The 60-year-old confirmed this herself, according to several US media outlets. Accordingly, she is already undergoing treatment and underwent surgery a few weeks ago.
Bondi told CBS News and CNN that she is currently recovering from the procedure and is feeling well under the circumstances. The diagnosis was made after she left the US Department of Justice in April.
US President Donald Trump fired Bondi as justice minister at the beginning of April. The previous Deputy Minister of Justice, Todd Blanche, took over the management of the ministry on an interim basis.
Vance: Bondi is “valuable support”
As the “Axios” portal reports, Bondi will in future be a member of the US government’s scientific and technological advisory board. This is the “Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology” (PCAST), which is intended to advise the government on artificial intelligence issues.
US Vice President JD Vance described Bondi as “valuable support” for the government. He is pleased that she will continue to work on important political issues.
Bondi is expected to testify about Epstein files
Bondi is invited to testify before the House of Representatives Committee on Friday. It is supposed to be about how the Justice Department deals with the so-called Epstein files. The slow publication of the documents has sparked cross-party criticism in recent months.
US media also recently reported on tensions between Trump and Bondi during their time in office. The background is said to have been different ideas about the political course of the Ministry of Justice.
