Representatives of the Islamist Hamas have met in Cairo for new talks on the future of the Gaza Strip.
Hamas and other Palestinian groups have begun negotiations on thisEgyptian state-affiliated television channel Al-Kahira News reported today. It is about preparations for the second phase of the peace plan for Gaza, including the creation of a body of Palestinian technocrats to temporarily administer the area.
Hamas announced yesterday evening that top official Khalil al-Haja would lead the delegation. It’s about completing the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, including the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the coastal area.

USA: Implementation of Gaza peace plan enters next phase
According to the USA, the implementation of the Gaza peace plan is entering the second phase. This is about the disarmament of Hamas, the establishment of a technocratic transitional government and the beginning of the reconstruction of the Gaza Stripsaid US special envoy Steve Witkoff on the X platform.
Trump presented the peace plan last September. The ceasefire then came into force shortly afterwards on October 10th. As part of the first part of the agreement, among other things, all abductees and hostage bodies from Israel were to be handed over, but the remains of an Israeli are still in the Gaza Strip.
First names for technocrat committee
Egyptian security circles said that Hamas had agreed on the names for the planned technocrat committee, which would take care of civil issues and public services in Gaza. According to information from Cairo, at least 12 of 15 names have been confirmed.
The next step is to disarm Hamas. The terrorist organization has so far rejected this. Hamas members who commit to peaceful coexistence with Israel and to laying down their weapons should receive amnesty. Because of the open questions, there are doubts as to whether the second phase of the plan can start as hoped. (rbu/sda/dpa)
