The nuclear power Pakistan has again attacked targets in neighboring Afghanistan. Security forces carried out a ground operation along the Pakistan-Afghan border, wrote Information Minister Ataullah Tarar on Platform
The attacks destroyed three targets in the Afghan provinces of Paktia, Paktika and Kunar and killed several suspected terrorists, Tarar said. The attacks were portrayed as a response to recent terror attacks in Pakistan, including an incident in the port city of Karachi in which three security forces were killed on Saturday.
There was initially no official information from the Islamist Taliban ruling there in Afghanistan. Local broadcaster Tolonews reported that more than 30 people were killed and more than 100 injured in the airstrikes.
Since autumn there have been repeated attacks on each other by the two neighboring countries. Islamabad accuses Kabul of harboring terrorists who carry out attacks in Pakistan. Kabul denies this. There was a temporary ceasefire in the conflict; Pakistan has been talking about an “open war” since the end of February. (sda/dpa)
