The fire alarm in the Munich Airport tower was triggered by a defective component. The airport had to suspend operations for several hours on Sunday evening.

The component was part of the ventilation system and was then replaced, an airport spokesman said late on Sunday evening. Now the tower can work again without restrictions.

The airport had previously announced that operations had been temporarily suspended. “The tower at Munich Airport was evacuated at 8:33 p.m. due to the smell of fire,” the website said. “German air traffic control has stopped flight operations until further notice.” Around two hours later, however, there were individual starts again.
Munich Airport now wanted to handle as many flights as possible well into the night. (sda/dpa)
