According to President Vladimir Putin, Russia is ready to transport and store enriched uranium from Iran. Putin said this at an extraordinary press conference after the celebrations marking the anniversary of the victory in World War II. There was originally agreement on this, but the USA suddenly toughened its stance. The Kremlin chief said that Russia had already transported enriched uranium from Iran once in 2015. Iran trusted Russia, “and not without reason.”
Moscow is ready to “repeat this experience”. He said that all parties to the conflict – Iran, the US and Israel – had agreed to this. “But then the United States tightened its position and demanded that it be transported exclusively to US territory. Iran then tightened its position.”
Putin described the conflict between the USA and Iran as “very difficult and complicated”. Russia is also in a difficult position because it maintains friendly relations with both Iran and its neighbors in the Persian Gulf.
Moscow will therefore continue to stay in contact with Tehran and Washington. “We hope that this conflict can be resolved, and as quickly as possible,” said Putin. In his opinion, no one is interested in continuing this dispute. (sda/dpa)
