Argentina’s ultra-liberal President Javier Milei wants to make the South American country the center of the AI industry. Artificial intelligence frees people from the limitations of their own brains and drives productivity into previously unknown spheres, the economist wrote in a guest article in the British newspaper “Financial Times”.

A government legislative initiative is now intended to create the legal framework for an AI bonanza in Argentina. Accordingly, artificial intelligence should remain largely unregulated in the South American country. In addition, according to the plans, a new category will be introduced in Argentine corporate law for companies that are essentially controlled by AI agents. In addition, a low corporate tax should make Argentina an attractive location for these non-human companies.
“We are open,” Milei wrote in the opinion article. “Let Buenos Aires be to AI what Amsterdam was to the seafaring era.” Most recently, the Argentine president welcomed the German-born US investor Peter Thiel to the government headquarters Casa Rosada for discussions about artificial intelligence. According to media reports, the co-founder of Paypal and Palantir is currently spending a lot of time in Buenos Aires, where he is said to have bought a house and enrolled his daughters in school.
