Actor Mark Hamill is at the center of a political controversy after a social media post about Donald Trump. The trigger is an AI-generated image that Hamill published on the Bluesky platform and that shows Trump in an open grave.
In the picture, US President Donald Trump can be seen next to a gravestone with the inscription “Donald J. Trump 1946-2024” and the comment “If only–”.

Hamill further wrote in the post that Trump should live long enough to see his “inevitable, devastating defeat in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, and be impeached, convicted and humiliated for his countless crimes.”
Hamill also said Trump should live long enough to see him forever disgraced in the history books. Shortly after publication, the post was deleted again.
The White House responded publicly to the post, calling Hamill a “sick individual” in a statement on X. In the same statement, he is accused of using such representations to spread problematic rhetoric that could encourage political violence.
.@MarkHamill is one sick individual.
These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves.
This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President. pic.twitter.com/daJqcyssm7

Hamill then released a clarification. He explained that his original wording had been misunderstood and expressed regret if the image was perceived as inappropriate. At the same time, he stuck to his political criticism of Trump.
Hamill reiterated that he wanted the opposite of death for Trump, that he should live long enough to be held accountable for his actions after a possible political defeat and legal consequences.
Mark Hamill played the role of Luke Skywalker in various “Star Wars” films and achieved worldwide fame. The now 75-year-old is also politically active. In addition to criticizing Donald Trump, he also spoke out in support of Ukraine. (ear)
