The US pop icon Madonna (67) has announced a new studio album. The record entitled “Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II” is scheduled to be released on July 3rd and follows on from her successful dance album from 2005.
It is their first full album in around seven years and their 15th studio album. According to media reports, for the project the singer worked again with producer Stuart Price, who was already involved in the original “Confessions on a Dance Floor”.
The album at the time produced several international hits, including the single “Hung Up”.
New music is beat-heavy
The announcement was posted on Madonna’s social media accounts, where she also shared the cover. Madonna also presented a brief taste of the new music on Instagram – and deleted all previous content.
The short song excerpt suggests that Madonna draws inspiration from house music on the new album. In a press statement quoted by several US media outlets, it was said that the creative idea behind the album was strongly influenced by the meaning of dance music.
“People think that dance music is superficial, but they are completely wrong,” the media “Rolling Stone” and “Billboard,” among others, quoted the musician as saying.
A manifesto for dance
“The dance floor is not just a place, it is a threshold: a ritual space in which movement replaces language.” It also said that she and Price had written a “manifesto” when working together on the new album.
It says: “We must dance, celebrate and pray with our bodies. These are things we have been doing for thousands of years – they are truly spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritual space.”
Madonna had previously hinted that she would be working on new dance music following her return to Warner Records. (sda/dpa)
