Are there signs of reconciliation now? The British King Charles III. (77) has reportedly met the family of his estranged son Prince Harry for the first time in years. The monarch received Harry (41) and his wife Meghan (44) together with their children Archie (7) and Lilibet (5) on Friday afternoon at his Highgrove residence in the English county of Gloucestershire, as reported by the PA news agency, among others, citing the palace.
Archie and Lilibet last saw their grandfather in 2022. Queen Camilla (78) was also there. However, it is not known what the meeting was about. According to the BBC, the palace described the meeting as a “private family affair.”
Harry and Meghan stepped away from their royal duties in 2020. The couple now lives in California with their two children. Since then, the relationship with the royal family has been considered shattered. Last year, Harry expressed his desire for a reconciliation. During a visit to the UK in September 2025, Harry met his father at Clarence House in London.
Confusion about staying in the palace
The 41-year-old arrived in London on Monday for a multi-day visit to Great Britain. At the beginning of the week, things were looking anything but good with regard to a possible rapprochement.
On Monday it was said that Harry would arrive with his family and stay overnight at Buckingham Palace. But the palace quickly denied that Harry was supposed to stay overnight in the palace. The offer had expired, it was said – much to Harry’s annoyance, as he announced through his spokesman.
A point of contention for years has been the question of how much police protection Harry and his family are still entitled to when visiting Great Britain. In 2025, the Court of Appeal rejected his appeal against a Home Office decision that he and his family would no longer automatically receive the same security status as the rest of the royals when traveling to Great Britain.
